More Information from Downtown Pleasanton Association:

YEAR ROUND SATURDAY FARMERS' MARKET

Visit the Pleasanton Farmers Market every Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Located on East Angela Street between Main and First Street.

The Pleasanton Farmers' Market is open every Saturday, year-round, rain or shine to provide you and your family with the season's freshest fruits and vegetables, all California-grown and sold to you by the very farmers that planted, nurtured and harvested the crop. The Farmer's Market is located on East Angela Street between Main and First Street.

While shopping the market, take a moment to help your friends and neighbors in need by participating in the Open Heart program. The Pleasanton Farmers’ Market and Open Heart Kitchen have partnered to collect donations of fresh produce for the 3,500 meals Open Heart serves each week. Open Heart Kitchen is a non-profit meal service dedicated to providing nutritious prepared food to those in need in Livermore, Dublin and Pleasanton.

Simply purchase some extra fruits or vegetables and ask the farmer to bag them separately, and then drop that bag into any of the collection boxes located throughout the market.

The farmers at the Pleasanton Farmers' Market bring you the freshest locally-grown fruits and vegetables. Click here to learn more about the farmers and other producers in the market.

Firehouse Arts Center to Host “Cabaret”

The Firehouse Arts Center will be the setting for Cabaret, the musical based on the book by Joe Masteroff, weekends January 21-30, 2011. The cast of Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre will perform the familiar music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb at 8:00 p.m. on January 21, 22, 27, 28, and 29, 2011 and at 2:00 p.m. on January 23 and 30, 2011. The Firehouse Arts Center is located at 4444 Railroad Avenue in downtown Pleasanton, Calif.

Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, Cabaret focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around the English cabaret performer, Sally Bowles, and her relationship with young American writer, Cliff Bradshaw. A sub-plot involves the doomed romance between boarding house owner, Fraulein Scheider, and her suitor, Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor.

Overseeing the action is the Emcee at the Kit Kat Klub who serves as a constant metaphor for the tenuous and threatening state of the late Weimar Republic throughout the show. Best known songs include Wilkommen, Don’t Tell Mama, Two Ladies, Why Should I Wake Up, Tomorrow Belongs to Me, If You Could See Her and Cabaret.

“What better way to highlight the Firehouse Arts Center Cabaret Series than with Cabaret itself,” says Theater Supervisor Rob Vogt. “Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre promised a top-notch professional theater experience for our audiences, a wonderful way to chase away the winter chill.”

Tickets are Adult-$17, $27 and $32; Child and Senior-$17, $24 and $28. They may be purchased online at www.firehousearts.org  up to three hours prior to the performance, by phone at (925) 931-4848, or in person at the Firehouse Arts Center Box Office. Box Office hours are Wednesday-Friday, 12 noon-6:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and for two hours prior to the performance. Group discounts are available. More information is available at www.firehousearts.org . Entrance to free parking is available on Spring Street near First Street.

About the Firehouse Arts Center

The Firehouse Arts Center, owned and operated by the City of Pleasanton, opened in September 2010. The facility incorporates portions of the city’s first fire station, built in 1929 with bricks from a local foundry. Highlights of the new downtown arts venue include a 227-seat flexible studio theater, 2,000 square feet of high-quality art exhibit space in the Harrington Gallery, two large arts classrooms, and a spacious lobby for receptions and events. A full schedule of arts experiences at the Firehouse Arts Center include music of all genres, drama, comedy and youth programming as well as visual arts exhibits.
